One modern recipe for making great things happen fast is the “hackathon”: put a bunch of bright, motivated people together in a time-box, give them some important challenges to work on and basic resources to enable their ideas, and watch magic happen!
To encourage more of this important impactful activity by students, we’re organizing the “Power Up! Houston” Hackathon along with the Clements Inventors Club (Clements HS, Fort Bend ISD) and IncubateHOU (based in the Cy-Fair ISD). This hackathon is for students of high-school age or older, and will be active throughout the hours of Houston Mini Maker Faire (on Saturday & Sunday 10am-5pm). The inspirational challenge will be provided by community-relief agencies based in Houston that address apsects of community health in Africa, with the potential to apply solutions broadly, even here in the US. This will be a powerful way to show how the ingenuity and resourcefulness of Houston can change the world!
If you want to be part of this and learn first-hand about the power of hackathons, sign up as a student participant or adult mentor, coach or volunteer through this online Form. We recommend that all Maker Faire attendees stop by this area and see the “creative chaos” in action, and to learn more about how to bring this high-impact educational activity to your school.
